About Linda Myer

Our own Linda Myer is our part-time Cantorial Soloist with funding provided by the Ray & Milly Russo Cultural Heritage and Arts Fund of CBJ.

Linda recently earned a Certificate in Jewish Sacred Music at Hebrew College in Newton, Mass. after a 5-year period of study. She will co-lead Friday night services with Rabbi Silverman twice monthly. One service will be our family-oriented Simcha Shabbat, usually the first Friday of each month, and the other will be a general service. These will be listed in the weekly bulletin.

Linda believes that the Shabbat service should catalyze a transformation within us. In that hour, we can create space to open our hearts a bit, to let go of the tightness within, to make room for deeper love and higher hope, to feel connected to each other and to a power greater than ourselves - and music is the best vehicle for this transformation.

Come join us for Friday night services filled with song and ruach (spirit). Bring yourselves and get ready to make a joyful noise.

Biographical Information:

Linda Myer is a cantorial soloist, Jewish educator, writer, and actress. Linda began her professional career as a special needs teacher in Madison, Wisconsin. She left full-time teaching and moved to Boston to pursue a writing career. She has published articles and poetry, and worked as a freelance textbook writer/editor for Houghton Mifflin, Prentice Hall, and Glencoe. Meanwhile, her artistic drive led her into acting. For over 20 years, she has written and performed one-woman plays as historical characters -- Amelia Earhart, Abigail Adams, and Sophie Tucker -- which she tours across New England and beyond.

Thirteen years ago, surgery for a fractured ankle led to a period of intense reflection. Linda's search for deeper meaning awakened her dormant love of Judaism as a path for spiritual development. Since then, she has learned Hebrew, celebrated an adult bat mitzvah, and recently earned a Certificate in Jewish Sacred Music from Hebrew College in Newton, Massachusetts.

Currently, Linda works as Special Needs Coordinator at Congregation Sha'aray Shalom in Hingham, Massachusetts, tutors b'nei mitzvah students, and continues to tour her one-woman shows. She has served as High Holiday cantorial soloist at Temple Hillel B'nai Torah (W. Roxbury), Congregation Agudas Achim (Attleboro) and Congregation Beth Israel (Roanoke, VA). She has been an active member of CBJ since 2008 and lives in Plymouth with her spouse, Brenda, and their dog, Happy. Linda is thrilled to serve as Beth Jacob's cantorial soloist.
